Liquid web has a 1 Tb 7200 rpm sata software raid 1
and a 120 gb Kingston hyper – x ssd mlc which is hardware but I am hoping the do a software raid version.
what kind of differences would I expect from that i.e. read and write times if both were software raid 1.
Sorry if a stupid question Gary

SSD would certainly offer better read and writer on either of raid software or hardware. Also, if you use hardware raid 1 in SATA it would yield better result than software raid.

Software RAID and SSDs are perfectly fine, I have no idea what they are talking about. Most of our SSD deployments use software RAID. Maybe it’s the SSDs they use.

Oh well its irrelevant now liquidweb was offering it with the Processor: Intel Xeon E3-1240 V1 3.3Ghz but now they have the Intel Xeon E3-1220 V2 3.1GHZ instead which has a much lower benchmark for the same price.
