So far here are my thoughts on the following hosts…
Rackspace = Overpriced for NO reason. They really tried to hustle me into an overpriced server.
Nexcess = Who? I can’t seem to find decent reviews on them good or bad. They will not give you root access to the dedicated server you are paying for however they said only Magento Enterprise clients can have root access b/c “THEY know what their doing”. SLA doesn’t have a 1-2 hour hardware guarantee. it just says “we will make our best efforts” < --LIES!
Zeroloag = Again, who? No reviews. But the price wasnt bad but they want a long term contract. That’s not gonna happen when you are NEW to the hosting game.
Simplehelix = cheaper but meh. I’m not sold. I need more proof on their uptime and reliability…
Siteground = Low rent. They seem to keep pushing that they are magento optimized, blah blah, blah but I can’t seem to find any US base customers who actually use them with Magento… And I don’t like all the excessive marketing, reminds me of godaddy…
Peer1 = I don’t like them. Period. RUDE sales people, and they have the nerve to be expensive for what they offer. $900 per month for an outdated server? Psst! Plus, I just don’t like their vibe. Something seems off. I wouldn’t trust them to host my ecommerce site.
Hostway = No.
Liquidweb = They seem OK but they don’t have Ngnix. I’ve seen a lot of bad reviews on their support and servers being down quite often.
WiredTree = Pending
Bottom line, if i’m going to spend hundreds of dollars on a server, they need to have phone/email/chat support, be friendly and helpful, Smart, 1 hour hardware replacement, fast response to issues no matter how big or small and give me a good value for what i’m paying for.
